1. What we collect

When you sign in with Google

Your name, email address, profile picture and Google's account identifier, which Google gives us when you choose "Continue with Google". We never receive your Google password. We also record when you sign in. You do not need an account to look up chords, but some features, such as a library and favourites, need one.

What you do in the service

  • The songs you play and favourite (your library and history).
  • Your progress: XP, level, streak and badges.
  • The ratings and the comments you leave about the chords of a song. A rating is tied to your account, or, if you are not signed in, to a random code your browser or app makes for itself.
  • The number of new songs you start each day, so that your plan's limits can be applied.
  • Songs you pick from YouTube (we keep the video's id, title, artist and cover picture), audio files you upload, and the chords and other results we work out from them.

Microphone (the tuner and the live chord detector)

The Toolkit's tuner and live chord detector listen through your microphone. In the apps we ask for the microphone permission only when you open one of them, and you can say no: everything else works without it. The sound is analysed on your device, as you play. It is not recorded, stored, uploaded or shared, and we never receive it.

Audio files you upload

When you upload a song, the file is sent to our servers so that its chords can be worked out, and kept so that you can play along with it later. In the apps, we see only the file you choose through the system's file picker. We do not look through your other files or media.

When you subscribe

Payments are handled by Razorpay. We receive the plan you chose, the status and dates of your subscription, and the identifiers Razorpay gives it. We do not receive or store your card, UPI or bank details. Those go only to Razorpay. If you subscribe through Google Play or the App Store, that store takes the payment and tells us the plan and its status.

Visit and usage statistics

We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which pages and features are used: for example how many people search, open a song or reach the pricing page. It receives your visit and device details (the pages or screens you open, your browser or device model and version, the app version, and an approximate location worked out from your IP address) and those events. We do not send it your name, email address or any account details. The admin pages are not counted.

Technical information

Like most services, our servers see your IP address and your browser or app details when you connect. We use your IP address to apply fair-use limits and to keep the service safe. We also keep short-term logs, including error reports, to find and fix problems.

When you write to us

The messages you send us and your email address, so that we can reply.

We use sensible measures to protect your data: sign-in is through Google, sessions are stored as a hash on our server, the connection to the service is encrypted, access to our systems is limited to the people who need it, and payment details never reach us.
